Wipro in global alliance with EMC

Wipro says it has entered into a strategic alliance with US-based EMC Corp, a global leader in technologies, reports Narayanan Madhavan.

Bangalore-based software giant Wipro said on Wednesday that it had entered into a strategic alliance with US-based EMC Corp, a global leader in technologies that help companies manage large quantities of information.

The two companies plan to jointly address a global market said to be worth $60 billion. Wipro will offer software solutions tailored around EMC’s core technologies.

An EMC spokeswoman told Hindustan Times said the partnership was not exclusive, but had a big potential, and would initially target markets in the US, the UK, India and the Middle East.

"It is not set in carved stone. Relationships do evolve," she said. EMC has similar partnerships with companies like EDS and Accenture, which compete with Wipro in software services, but this is the first such partnership headquartered out of India, she said.

"The alliance unites Wipro’s applied innovation framework for developing new solutions and services around EMC’s industry-leading information infrastructure technologies to enable more organisations, specifically in targeted growth markets, to optimise their infrastructure, secure and protect their information and leverage their information to unlock its full potential," the two firms said in a joint statement.

"This alliance is significant for us as it showcases our agility and flexibility to transform our business to meet changing customer requirements," said Suresh Vaswani, president, Wipro Technologies.
