A woman driving a Santro was a traffic-stopper — literally.
On Tuesday, the policemen during a nakabandi at SV road in Goregaon (West) stopped the 37-year-old woman. But instead of getting out of the car, she locked herself in. As the police coaxed and pleaded her to come out, a huge crowd gathered to witness the drama.
Traffic came to a halt for almost an hour at 10 pm on Tuesday as the terrified woman refused to come out of her car.
The police said the grey Santro came racing towards them. “The car almost banged on the policemen, but were saved by the iron barricade,” said a police officer.
The police said the women did not stop the car and tried to flee. The police on duty quickly punctured the car tyres to stop the car.
“When the officials asked her to come out and produce her driving licence and other documents, the terrified women locked herself inside the car for almost 50 minutes,” said a policeman.
The police called for a towing van that dragged the car to the police station. “Even then the women did not come out of the car and started crying,” said senior inspector Laxman Gore.
A passerby recognised the woman and contacted the family members who stay in Goregaon, who rushed to the Goregaon police station.

{{/usCountry}}The woman who was identified as S Gupta, a manger with a private firm, finally came out of the car.
“Our officials were relieved after conducting a search of the car,” added Gore. She was charged for rash driving and was released after she paid the fine.
