Komal had married her maternal uncle, Deepak Chaudhary (26), in June this year. The couple had fled to Haridwar and they later came back to Deepak’s parents house in Jani, Meerut.

On Friday morning, Deepak’s body was found in a semi-burnt condition at Niwari area of Ghaziabad. Komal was also found in a semi-unconscious state at Jarcha area of Greater Noida and her throat had deep strangulation marks. She, however, survived the assault.

After Komal was called for questioning, she told the police that her family strongly objected to her marriage and frequently sent Sandeep Singh, a family friend, to take her back from her in-laws’ house.

On Thursday, the couple came to Shastri Nagar area of Ghaziabad to meet a doctor after some health complication cropped up. There, they found that Singh was waiting for them at a juice shop.

Komal said that she was unable to recall the exact sequence of events after Singh offered them food at Raj Nagar and could only remember the strangulation incident.

Suspecting an honour killing angle into the case, the police have detained Komal’s parents, Pradeep Chaudhary and Sushila Chaudhary from Shastri Nagar area of Ghaziabad. Komal’s father runs a transport business at Ghaziabad.

“Singh is currently untraceable. We have detained her parents as according to Komal, they had strong objection over her marriage and had even threatened to kill her. We are even questioning her (Komal) to check her involvement,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said.

A murder case has been registered at Niwari police station against unidentified men for the murder.
