The peace procession was taken out under the leadership of presidentship of All-India Women’s Congress Committee, Rita Bahuguna Joshi. The procession started from Lahurabeer crossing and after passing through several routes, it culminated at Maidagin crossing in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust.

Addressing the meeting, she appreciated the people of Varanasi for maintaining peace and harmony in the hour of crisis.

The Women Congress Committee team also went to the houses of deceased persons and consoled the members of the bereaved family.

Later, while taking to mediapersons, Joshi lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party for playing politics over the blasts by taking out Rathyatra. “It is not an appropriate time to play politics but BJP is going to take out Rathyatra to give it a communal colour and divide the people in the name of religion and community,” she said. “BJP has lost its Hindutva ideology that is why BJP leaders LK Advani and Rajnath Singh are about to take out Rathyatras to regain party’s ideology of Hindutva,” she added.
