AN EXHIBITION on ‘women through the ages,’ was inaugurated at the State Museum here today. It has been organised by the Bhopal division of Archaeological Survey of India and would be on display till April 4.Commissioner, Culture, Archaeology, Archives and Museum, Pankaj Raag took Sports and Tourism Minister Yashodhara Raje around the exhibition and different galleries of the museum. He explained details of the exhibits to her.
The exhibition includes photographs of some very rare sculptures found in undivided India, some of which were as old as 2600 BC.
The photographs on display visualise various depictions of women through the ages. These include a rare terracotta image of a woman dated to 2800-2600 BC, bronze image of a dancing girl found in Mohenjodaro estimated to be 5000 years old along with several other photographs of sculptures from places like Hisar, Nausera (in Pakistan), Bhim Baithika, Meghagarh, Banawali and other places. Imitations of paintings of Bagh caves, Ajanta, Khajuraho, Rajasthan and Konark, those are a treat to the eyes of the onlooker, also find a place at the exhibition.
Also on display are attractive photographs of footwear, ornaments and styles that have changed through the ages. The multi-disciplinary contribution of women towards society as seen through the eyes of the artisans, sculptors and painters of the pre-and post-medieval era have been displayed here in the form of photographs.
Expressing her views on the museum, the Minister wrote in the visitor’s book, “ A gem of a museum, where rare sculptures are some of the finest examples of the era they represent. World class!”.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier today a seminar was organised at the State Museum on Art and Culture during the Mughal Era. The Commissioner for Culture and Archaeology, Pankaj Raag explained the objective of the two-day seminar at the inaugural session. Later Dr RC Agrawal and Dr Suresh Mishra presented their research papers at the seminar that was presided over by Dr RK Sharma.
The post-lunch session of the seminar was presided over by Dr RC Agrawal and DR JP Mishra, Dr Pratibha Punjabi, Dr Manohar Singh Ranawat, Dr Haq and Dr RK Sharma presented their research papers.
