MAYOR UMA Shashi Sharma has said that development work worth Rs 42 crore would be launched within a month under Rs 641-crore Narmada phase III project.

Talking to reporters here this evening, she informed that 13 electro magnetic bulk meters and 47 mechanical meters would be installed between Maheshwar and Indore. Besides, valves measuring more than 400 mm would be repaired and replaced as per need. Pipe joints with frequent leakages, too, would be repaired and replaced depending on their condition. In addition, seven overhead tanks will be constructed.

The components of Yashwant Sagar treatment plant, she said, would also be renewed. Besides, development works will be undertaken at Jalud. This includes installation of two power sub-stations and new 132 KV service lines.

According to the Mayor, Narmada phase III would be completed in 2009 and people would start getting 24-hour water supply from May 2009. She said installation of domestic user meters would also be completed by then.

Announcing the provisional rates of water supply, she said it would cost Rs 18 per 1000 litre with each family receiving 14000 litres. This will come to Rs 252 per month.

The total project cost, she said, will depend on the dollar status. It will cost Rs 641.25 crore in case its weak and Rs 671.72 crore if its strong. The metered water supply will begin from March 2009, which will follow a three-month testing period.

When pointed out that she reached late for Vande Mataram recitation yesterday but the morphed photo showed her among the singers, Dr Sharma said she would take the IMC photographer to task for this. Responding to a query that IMC tableau that was put at the tail end of Anant Chaturdashi procession, she said Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma has been asked to look into the matter.
