Several renowned writers have shown keen interest in the fair that will be held at the Bengali Club.

Preparations are on in full swing with prominent publishers including Publishers & Booksellers Giuild, Ananda Publications, Private Limited, Nath Publishing, Dev Sahitya Kuttir Private Limited, Bharati Book stall, Ananda Prakashan and several others having confirmed participation to showcase their books.

The genres of books will include fiction, non-fiction, short stories, thoughtful essays, stuff for children etc. Books dealing on subjects like science fiction, research oriented reference books, music would also be available at the fair.

Though West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya has sent his messages for the souvenir, he has expressed his inability to attend the fair because of the Assembly elections.

As per the programme schedule April 5 will mark the inauguration of the book fair. April 6, city-based Bengali writers like Madhavi Bandopadhyay, Amalndu Dutta, Dilip Chatterjee and others will be interacting with book lovers. Tick April 8 for Sishu Sahitya Diwas (a day for children’s literature).

Also to catch the fancy of the kids, competitive events like poetry recitation, fine art will be organised. Club general secretary Arun Banerjee said, “The final day of the book fair will mark Rabindra Sangeet presentation by acclaimed singer Srikumar Chatterjee.”

Book stalls will be set up inside the auditorium while interactive and book reading sessions will be held in the open ground adjacent to the hall.

“We’re in constant touch with the people of the Bengali community in the state capital and they are all looking forward to the event. Many young and old in Bengali families have saving money to buy books,” Sinha said and added, “This is indeed a good sign. The response will encourage us to make the Bengali Book Fair an annual event.”
