Organisers of the World Series Hockey (WSH) aren't contemplating legal action as yet against the top national players who had signed up and then withdrew to attend the Olympic preparatory camp.
Though the league, a joint venture of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Nimbus Sports, has served India strikers, Shivendra Singh and Tushar Khandekar, with notice for not turning up, the organisers are going soft on the issue, at least temporarily, as they are not keen to get involved in a legal battle with the players.
"Right now, we are in the middle of competition, and will think about it later," Yannick Colaco, CEO, Nimbus Sports, told HT from Mumbai.
While Colaco refused to divulge the details of the contract, the duo, like several other top players, had received an initial payment after signing the agreement in December. It is learnt that while Shivendra received Rs 90,000, Tushar got Rs 63,000.
When contacted, Shivendra, camping in Bangalore in preparation for the London Games, said since he was a part of the national team, he couldn't play the league and had returned the money. "There's nothing like representing the country in the Olympics," he added.
