The fifth and youngest open university in the country, the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established in 1989 and has so far educated 1.5 million. The university has a rural focus and there are agriculture-related courses like farming and landscape designing. Those who are illiterate but 16 years old can take an entrance test to enroll for courses. Over two lakh students enrolled for YCMOU courses last year.

Courses

It offers over 154 degree, diploma and short-term certificate courses including BA and B.Com to courses like Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering. Admission requirements differ from course to course. Once registered, students are allowed up to eight years to finish their degree.

Highlights You can pursue a degree or diploma at YCMOU simultaneously while pursuing another degree from a different university.

Admissions

Applications received till July 15 for degree programmes; throughout the year for other courses.
