His stand is that Kashmir is not a part of India. He is among the few who began the separatist movement in Jammu and Kashmir. JKLF consists largely of Pak-funded and trained militants and foreign mercenaries.

Over the decade, he has been in and out of jails numerous times and has spent a long part of the 1990s in jails.
