Sulking former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa is seriously considering a move to split the BJP in the southern state and launch a new party by the end of December, sources close to him told HT on Wednesday.
The sources said he’s weighing various options that include forming an alliance with the NCP led by union minister Sharad Pawar or with Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party or the Janata Dal (United) led by Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar.
BSY told supporters in his hometown Shimoga in central Karnataka on Tuesday that he would announce his next move on BJP veteran AB Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25.
Political observers feel that BSY’s decision to prolong his move to form a new party is aimed at giving the central leaders of the BJP adequate time to consider his demand to be appointed as chief of the party’s Karnataka unit.
But a confidant of BSY and Karnataka minister told HT, “He has almost made up his mind and is only waiting for a right time to announce his decision.”
BSY reckons that regional parties will play a major role after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and allying with the SP, JD(U) or NCP would be a good bet, sources said.
