Yeshwant Sagar gives up finally

AFTER EXCEEDING its petering out deadline by over a month, the Yeshwant Sagar reservoir has finally run dry. Only a few shallow pits in the vicinity of the lake currently have water.

The straggling reserves are being pumped to the Phool Kalaria pumping station to supply 2-2.5 million gallons of water on alternate days to the western part of the City.

Even these reserves are not expected to last for more than a fortnight and the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Waterworks Department has already connected overhead tanks fed by the reservoir to the Narmada supply line as a precautionary measure.

Until now water from Yeshwant Sagar was fed to overhead tanks at BSF campus, Subhash Chowk and Maharana Pratap Nagar overhead tanks apart from being supplied on alternate days to Rajwada, Bada Ganpati and other parts of western Indore.

Now, however, the tanks have been linked to the Narmada supply mains and reservoir water is being used only for supplying 2-2.5 million gallons of water to the heart of the City.
