Adityanath, along with his supporters, reached the overbridge and inaugurated it. Hindu Yuva Vahini activists and others flagged off traffic on the overbridge.
The tussle between the saffron brigade led by Adityanath here and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav intensified here in the last one year.

Earlier, during the visit of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, Adityanath had given a Gorakhpur bandh call in June 2004 to protest against dismal power scenario. A similar call was given on September 28, 2005 to express their anger against the alleged insensitive attitude of the government towards Japanese Encephalitis (JE) patients in the region.

Moreover, the remarks of SP MP Ramgopal Yadav against the Gorakhnath temple and involvement of the Vahini in Mau communal riots added fuel to the fire.
In view of the activities of the saffron brigade in the region, the CM had taken personal interest in the zila panchayat chairperson’s election. The SP registered victory here, boosting the morale of party workers.

The saffron brigade claimed that all credit should go to Adityanath who maintained intense pressure on the government for allocation of budget to complete the overbridge and the then Village Development Minister Shivpratap Shukla and the then Chief Minister Rajnath Singh.

They claimed that the previous BJP Government had allocated funds for the bridge and blamed Mulayam Singh-led Government for neglecting the project.
