The decision to include young players for the Test against England was part of an ongoing process to develop the team which had a "good stint" in the recent series against Pakistan, says Indian coach Greg Chappell.

Chappell said the presence of a few young cricketers had re-invigorated the team and it was important to carry the momentum into the series against England.

"We played some good cricket in Pakistan. We have to keep developing by hard work and we have to develop young cricketers," he said.

"Our players had a good stint in Pakistan... Good fielding and bowling give the confidence to the team," Chappell said on Friday.

He said Sachin Tendulkar had evolved as a player over time and the criticism he had to face in Pakistan had only helped him.

"Sachin's game has evolved over time. He is a good player, a good team man. At thirty two, it is too early to predict his decline," he said.

"He is going to play a very important part in the team. He gives flexibility to the team," Chappell said.
