On May 7, 2011, the victim had gone to attend a wedding with her elder sister, where she went missing. She was later found weeping outside the house of a villager and told her father that an unidentified person raped her. After conducting investigations, the police arrested Ajay and booked him under section 376 of the RPC.

In his verdict, principal sessions judge, Reasi, Rajesh Sikiri, said, “I am of considered opinion that the prosecution has categorically proved beyond shadows of all reasonable doubts that victim, a minor girl of about 7 years, was kidnapped by the accused and raped.” The youth was sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment.
