"Army had laid an ambush in Zabi Khurhama village when militants opened fire on the troops from a hilltop. One youth was injured in the firing, who later succumbed to injuries," the spokesman said.

The slain youth has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Zabi Khurhama, police sources said.

Mir's family, however, has alleged that he was killed last night by army without any provocation when he had gone outside his house to relieve himself, they said.

The army spokesman, meanwhile, denied the allegations saying that Mir's house was behind the place of ambush and the troopers could not have fired towards their back.

"It was firing from militants that killed the youth," he added.
