Speaking at the first day of two-day conference on youth, media and democracy Syed Fayaz said, "Let us make democracy more fair, responsive and just",

Acknowledging the shortcomings of a democratic system, he said that there are many loopholes in a democratic set-up, where genuine people do not get opportunity to contribute to the society.

"A democratic set up has many shortcomings but we do not have other alternatives so youth activism is needed to plug these weaknesses in the governance," Fayaz said.

Stressing active participation of youth in democracy, dean academic affairs, Kashmir University, AR Yousuf said that role of youth is immense and vitally important in a democratic set-up, as they form the largest chunk of the population.
