Police on Tuesday arrested a youth here in the lower court after it recovered a toy pistol from his possession, which he used for extorting money from people.

Giving details about the incident, the senior police official said "The youth has been identified as Mohammad Salim Sheikh from Safakadal area of the old city. He was carrying a toy pistol to extort money from people".

According to police the youth has a history of extortion and other criminal charges against him.

The police said the situation could have created panic as the arrest was made during the working hours.

"A toy pistol and some letter pads were recovered from Salim," police added.

He added that an FIR has been registered against Salim.
