There isn’t much time to play a big one. Yuvraj Singh, India’s 2011 World Cup star, admitted as much. The quality of bowling at the IPL, he conceded on Thursday, was too good to adjust rightaway.
Daredevils’ Rs. 16 crore buy said, “At domestic level, at times you don’t play this quality of international bowlers, so it’s hard to come in and adjust quickly. I’m not giving excuses, but T20 is a different form of season. You hardly get time to get set.”
For a player who would walk in and straightaway smash seamers, he had even raced to a 12-ball 50 against the likes of Stuart Broad, it was an admission of the changing phase in his career.
Barring a half-century and a couple of 20s, his seven matches at this edition of the IPL have been disappointing.
In the last match, he couldn’t handle Varun Aaron’s pace and in the game before that he couldn’t clear paceman Jasprit Bumrah.
Call it waning reflexes but Yuvraj, to survive, will need to reinvent himself. Maybe come up the order and build the innings.
