MP: Maha lifts overall champion trophy of youth festival

The five-day 30th Inter-university National Youth Festival ended with a colourful valedictory function at the DAVV campus on Monday. With the maximum number of titles in various events, the University of Mumbai was adjudged the over-all champion.

The five-day 30th Inter-university National Youth Festival ended with a colourful valedictory function at the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidhyalaya (DAVV) campus on Monday.

With the maximum number of titles in various events including music, the University of Mumbai was adjudged the over-all champion of the festival followed by runners-up Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The festival, Pravah-2015, was hosted by DAVV under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with the support of ministry of skill development, enterprises, youth affairs and sports.

Altogether, 987 students from 74 universities participated in 24 cultural events during the festival.

On the fifth and final day of the festival, a valedictory function was organised at the university’s main auditorium in the presence of Indore MP and

Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, AIU joint secretary Sampson David and AIU observer Gopal Pathak. During the colourful ceremony, several candidates were awarded.

Earlier, Mahajan, who is a former DAVV student, welcomed the students and team managers to the city.

Emphasising on the value of culture and fun in life, Mahajan said, “I always ask parents not to make their kids marks-making machines.”

"…fun and enjoyment are as important as good salary packages in one's life," Mahajan said. AIU joint secretary Sampson David also addressed the gathering and said during the past five days a mini-India was observed on the campus.

The aim of organising the national youth festival is not to exhibit students' talent, but to share culture and affection among each other, he said.

After the address, the guests presented prizes to the winners and over-all champions. In music, the University of Mumbai got the overall championship title.

In dance, a team from Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, emerged the champion. In literary events, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur, got the overall championship trophy.

In theatre and fine arts, Mangalore University, Mangalore, Karnataka and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, got the overall championship title.

However, the University of Mumbai, got the overall championship trophy.
