MP: People fail to get Rs 2.5 lakh despite wedding proof

People swarmed to bank branches after they came to know that they can produce wedding invitation cards as proof to withdraw the amount. However, banks told them that no such directives have been received.

Allahabad Bank branch manager Mahendra Malaviya said two customers who showed wedding cards were turned away in absence of directives.

“They could not even withdraw Rs 50,000 due to cash shortage,” he said.

Banks other than Bank of India and State Bank of India refused customers owing to cash crunch.

Those who received new currency notes of Rs 2,000 faced problems in getting changes. However, banks accepted old currency notes in Jan Dhan accounts. Indelible ink was used to mark people withdrawing money.

People in queue opposing demonetisation: Cong

Indore Congress leader Devendra Singh Yadav claimed that according to a self-organised opinion poll, 7,602 people standing in queues outside bank branches voted against demonetisation of Rs 1000, Rs 500 notes, though they said they were against black money.

The party had contacted 10,000 for the poll. The votes were counted at party office Gandhi Bhavan.
