Rajasthan’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday claimed to have made a major breakthrough in the 2007 Ajmer blast case, recovering a car allegedly used for transporting explosives used in the terror attack and identifying five more persons who could be linked to the blast.
The bomb blast at the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in October 2007, killed three.
According to a senior ATS official, the black Santro car used to ferry the explosives was recovered on Thursday from Indore.
The car has a Madhya Pradesh registration number (MP 43 0903) and originally belonged to Anandraj Katare, an accused in the murder of RSS activist Sunil Joshi, who was himself a suspect in the blast case. Katare had sold the car in 2010. Satyendra Singh Ranawat, additional superintendent of police, ATS, said the explosives were taken from Indore to Godhra and then to Ajmer in the car.
“We have identified five more accused in the case -- Mukesh Vaswani, Bhavesh Patel, Suresh Nayar, Mahul M Mukesh and Sunny. They all are from Gujarat and the ATS has arrested Mukesh,” said the officer.
The breakthrough claim comes at a time when political battle is raging between the Congress and the BJP over ‘Hindu terror’.
