The Rajasthan high court on Thursday deferred the proceeding at chief judicial magistrate (Jodhpur district) court against Bollywood star Salman Khan under arms Act.
Justice Nir Maljeet Kaur ordered the state government to produce its side on the petition seeking permission to produce five fresh witnesses by Khan.
Shrikant Shivde, the counsel of Khan, challenged the order passed by district and session court (Jodhpur district) on May 14. However, the session judge Manoj Vyas cancelled Khan’s request to to bring five fresh witnesses in the arms Act case.
Shivde argued that the high court allowed the prosecute to bring four fresh witnesses in the same case and said on the same ground the petition by the defending side seeking permission to bring five fresh witnesses in the case should also be accepted. Justice Kaur has asked the state government to produce its witnesses on July 8. The hearing will not take place during this period.
The district and session court on May 14 rejected the revised petition filed by Khan.
It may be recalled here that a case of blackbuck hunting near Kankani was lodged against Khan on October 1, 1998. Later, the forest department filed a separate case against him under the arms Act on October 15, 1998. He was accused of using a weapon whose licence had expired on September 22, 1998.
