State Congress chief Sachin Pilot visited Beawar to meet the families of those who were killed in the cylinder blast on Monday.
Nineteen people were killed after they got buried under the debris of a guesthouse, which turned into rubble after an LPG cylinder blast on Friday. At the time of the blast, a large number of people had gathered at the guesthouse to attend a wedding.
Pilot, along with the newly elected Ajmer MP Raghu Sharma and office-bearers of the district Congress, met the bereaved families and assured them of all possible help.
Pilot demanded more compensation and a government job to the next of kin killed in the incident. “Rs 2 lakh compensation is less looking at the gravity of the incident. When the government gives Rs 5 lakh to victims of liquor-related tragedies, why Rs 2 lakh in this case,” he added.
He also demanded that the investigation should also include how rescue operations were conducted before the army stepped in. “The investigation should include other points and see if the district officials, overseeing the rescue operation, carried out their responsibilities,” said Pilot.
Locals had complained to Pilot that rescue operations were not carried out properly by the district administration.
“Rescue operations picked pace only after the army took over the control and people from Sri Cement reached to assist the army,” said Hemant Dadhich, a family friend of the Patnecha family, whose members died in the incident. “They (district officials) carried out rescue operation and recovered the bodies,” said Gajendra Singh Chauhan a local resident.
