Leader of Opposition in the Jaipur municipal corporation, Gulam Nabi Azad, on Monday lodged a complaint against chairperson of Nagar Paryatan Vikas, Sanskritik Utsav and Jan Kalyan Committee Kusum Yadav for allegedly using the civic body’s funds to organise a private cultural event at a BJP MP’s house last month. The Jyoti Nagar police are yet to register an FIR.

“The cultural committee had organised a function on June 30, a day before the birthday of MP Ramcharan Bohra, where funds of the civic body was spent illegally. An order (dated June 24) from the office of additional commissioner Rakesh Sharma was also issued in this regard which said that funds be given for a Bhajan evening at Bohra’s residence where prayers will be offered for good rain,” said Azad.

He added that since the money was spent from the funds allocated to the cultural committee, Yadav was answerable to the public. “`1 crore was allocated to the cultural committee in the annual budget of the JMC. How the funds could be spent for the personal party organised at the house of an MP?” asked Azad.

Earlier, former mayor Jyoti Khandelwal had accused Yadav of swindling JMC funds. The civic body officials had, however, maintained that the order had been revoked through a second directive issued on June 30.

The official order issued from JMC additional commissioner Rakesh Sharma’s office on June 24 stated that a raen basera (shelter home) and a mahaaarti committee constituted by the Nagar Paryatan Vikas, Sanskritik Utsav and Jan Kalyan Committee of the municipal corporation, would sponsor a ‘Shyam Baba Bhajan and Mahaaarti’ programme at Bohra’s residence for a good rainfall.
