Dressed in jeans and T-shirt, Jagan Gujjar, a most-wanted dacoit strode purposefully towards his target – the dias erected at the Basant Panchami fair at Cemeri in Rajasthan's Karauli district, where Sachin Pilot, Congress MP from Dausa was about to launch into a speech. He came, he saw, and he surrendered on Saturday at around 4 p.m.

Jagan Gujjar carried a price of Rs 11 lakhs on his head. The surrender was symbolized by the bow the dacoit took to touch Pilot’s feet. He vowed to give up his profession of crime and spoke of his desire to give up the life of crime, if only the police treated him well. He also pleaded for a fair trial.

Gujjar was wanted in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh in over 70 cases since 2006. Soon after surrender, he was arrested by the Karouri Police.

Karauli SP, Sarvar Khan, said Gujjar also surrendered a .315 rifle and a dozen cartridges.

Police officials quoted Gujjar as saying: “I want to repent my actions and am so, I'm surrendering to the police.”
