Rajasthan may be the number one state in terms of IT-enables services, but it lags behind several states, including Himachal Pradesh, in e-transactions.

As per eTaal, a portal of the department of electronics and information technology, Rajasthan doesn’t figure even in the top five states in terms of e-transactions per 1,000 population.

E-governance continues to be a distant dream in the state and digitalisation of government departments has been a non-starter.

A few years back, the then chief secretary CK Mathew made it mandatory for all land record copies (LRC) to be digitalised and provided through e-mitra kiosks.

However, 16 districts, including Barmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Dausa and Churu, are yet to upload their land records online.

In December 2014, 1,022 LRCs were issued, with the maximum issued in Tonk district.

Incidentally, tonk district houses Niwai, the first tehsil in the state to go digital.

Similarly, Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur electricity distribution companies (discoms) now seek online applications for new electricity connections.

The public health and engineering department (PHED) also provides the facility of submitting applications for water connections online.
