Upset with increasing cases of allegations of rape against godmen, a sadhu in Alwar district chopped off his private parts in Mandan village of Behror tehsil on Friday night .
He was shifted to a private hospital in Jaipur on Saturday and was operated on. His condition is stable now.
The sadhu runs the Siddha Sewa Dham ashram in Mandan village and enjoys a good standing among the locals.
Behror deputy superintendent of police Janesh Tanwar said that a bhajan kirtan (devotional songs) was being held at an Ashram in Mandhan village on Friday night. During a break, people participating in the Kirtan started talking about allegations against Asha Ram Bapu and Daati Maharaj, both of whom have been accused of rape.
The talk apparently disturbed the sadhu of the Ashram, Anil Purohit (30), popularly known as Shastri ji, went to his room and chopped off his private parts. He then came before the gathering with the chopped off parts in his hand. He said that in future, nobody will suspect him of any such behaviour.
His followers rushed him to a nearby hospital, said DSP Tanwar. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Jaipur where he was operated upon. His condition is now stable. Police is investigating the matter although no report has been registered. Police will take his statement after his return from Jaipur, said Tanwar.
