To restore harmony between Gujjar and Meena communities, pitted against each other over Scheduled Tribe status, a section of people representing them on Sunday announced a 'Gujjar-Meena Sadbhavna Manch' in Jaipur.
"We will work to restore harmony and trust among Gujjar-Meena people, which in the recent had weakened due to certain reasons," Vikram Singh Gujjar, coordinator of the Manch, told reporters.
"We have with us intellectual people from both the communities, who will work on grass root level to eliminate the bitterness between the communities. Today we held a meeting to decide guidelines in which people from Jhalawar, Kota, Bundi, Sawaimadhopur, Karauli, Tonk, Baran, Alwar, Sikar, Jhunjhunu took part."
On November 14, 'Diwali Milan' would be organised in which thousands of people are likely to take part, he said.
"Thereafter, we will organise state, district and tehsil level conventions and a rally, which will cover maximum area of the state where both the communities live," he added.
President of the Manch, BL Meena said, "we want to bring back harmony among people, and education has an important role to play in this. Some politically motivated certain elements have disturbed the harmony and trust, and rebuilding could be done only with education hence we are focusing on youths."
