A single bench of justice MC Sharma said Hingonia had turned from a cow shelter to a slaughter house.

The court criticised Jaipur civic body officials and said they were only indulging in corruption and should be transferred out, advocate Poonam Chand Bhandari told HT.

The court directed ACB additional director Alok Tripathi to present a report on taking action against corrupt civic body officials, said Bhandari. The court also directed that a committee be formed comprising the collector, JMC commissioner and police commissioner to oversee effective implementation of ban on plastic. At the hearing on August 4, the court reprimanded the officials for laxity. The court said Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s laxity led to the situation where hundreds of cows had died.

The court summoned SOG IG MN Dinesh and JMC commissioner Hemant Gera to visit Hingonia to take stock of the situation and give a report to the court. The next date of hearing was fixed on August 10.

After widespread condemnation, the government acted and removed gaushala in-charge RK Sharma and gaushala deputy commissioner Sher Singh Luhadia for neglecting their duties and going on sudden leave. The petition on poor condition of cows in Hingonia was filed in 2010 by an NGO, Jago Janata Society.
