Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Jaipur on July 7 to take part in a public function. However, the state government is yet to receive the schedule of the proposed visit.
“We have received a letter stating about probable visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jaipur on July 7. The letter does not have any details,” a general administrative department (GAD) official in the know of things said.
Sources in BJP said that Modi is likely to attend a conference on urban development and smart city projects. The prime minister is also likely to address a rally. However, the schedule is tentative and will be confirmed in the coming days. If Modi addresses a rally then it would be seen as launch of the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan.
Modi will be visiting Rajasthan after a gap of four months. He had last visited Jhunjhunu on March 8 to inaugurate the pan-India expansion of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also expected to visit Jaipur in July. State Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma said that the dates of his visit are being worked out.

{{/usCountry}}The state units of Congress and BJP are currently in a war of words over the farmers’ plight. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday took to Twitter to target the Congress. “Those who are shedding crocodile tears in the name of farmers did not do anything for them during their term. We have waived of farm loans of up to ₹50,000.”
Meanwhile, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok hit out at the union government. “The NDA government is taking the nation away from the path of rural and agriculture development and destroying agrarian as well as rural economy,” he said in a tweet.
Earlier in the week, Gehlot in a series of tweets targeted Raje saying that even as the state government was “busy in propaganda” over farm loan waiver, the farmers in chief minister’s home constituency are facing financial problems due to crash in prices of garlic and state government’s failure to purchase it at fair price.
