Rain, hailstorm fail to dampen spirit of Jaipur voters

Despite pleasant weather in Jaipur, voters’ turnout was slow in the early hour but picked up later.

Jaipur: Despite pleasant weather in Jaipur, voters’ turnout was slow in the early hour on Thursday. Many parts of the state received rain and hail storm on Wednesday night.

In areas like Malviya Nagar, Jalupura, C-Scheme, Jawahar Nagar, Mansarover, Jhalana, Civil Lines and few areas of walled city, the voting witnessed a slow start and picked up gradually with the day.

The polling reached 8.45% by 9am; 24.5% by 11am and 38.4% by 1 pm and concluded with 61 percent.

The polling had started at 7am.

“Aapna vote haath ke saath (My vote is to hand),” said an enthused youth in the walled city after casting his vote.
At a polling booth in Malviya Nagar, the booth officials asked a man to move away after he began prompting his wife to caste vote in favour of lotus symbol.

While talks of Modi were making rounds at majority of places, ‘Jhaadoo’ was the topic of discussion in the walled city, especially in the areas dominated by the minorities.

The Congress workers looked passive at most of the booths while the BJP workers clearly outnumbered them.
