With abnormal rain lashing the western districts of the desert state for the last 24 hours till Monday morning, Jalore and Barmer districts are facing flood-like situation. The highest rainfall was recorded in Mt Abu (444 mm), followed by Gudhamalani (331 mm) in Barmer and Raniwada (320 mm) in Jalore.
All government and private secondary schools have been closed till Tuesday in the two districts. Meanwhile, several people have been airlifted from inundated Jalore villages and moved to relief camps on Monday.
According to data from water resources department, five out of six districts in Jodhpur division received abnormal rainfall till Monday morning. Abnormal rainfall has been recorded in Jalore (141.65mm), Barmer (82.77mm), Pali (77.29mm) Jodhpur (33.77mm) and Jaisalmer (19.29mm). Only Sirohi recorded excess rain and received 173.23mm. (The water resources department collates rain data for last 24 hours at 8.30am every day).
In Barmer district, several hutments were severely damaged after over 36-hour continuous rain. Several roads in the district are two to three feet under rainwater. The district administration has called rescue team from the Jodhpur for Gudhamalani block where a flood-like situation persists.

Due to heavy rains in Ajmer, the Luni river passing through the block is overflowing. Barmer collector Madhusudan Sharma has appealed people in the low-lying areas to shift to safer places. “In a meeting, held today (Monday) to take stock of the situation, I have asked officials not leave their headquarters and keep reporting to the district control room,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Chambal overflowing in kota The Chambal continues to overflow in Kota due to high inflow of water from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. The Kota Barrage has discharged over 2.25 lakh cusecs of water into the Chambal river (downstream) by opening 14 floodgates on Monday.
However, the water-logging and river run-off situation in the Hadauti region, including Jhalawar, has improved from Sunday. The biggest of the four dams on the Chambal in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi Sagar, opened 17 out 19 gates to discharge 3 lakh cusecs of flood water on Monday and later Rana Pratap Sagar (RPS) Dam of Rawatbhata and Kota Barrage in Kota, located in the downstream of GS Dam, also opened its 7 out of total 19 gates and 14 out of total 19 gates respectively to discharge 2 lakh cusecs of water each which lead to overflow in downstream of the Chambal from Kota to Dholpur in Rajasthan.
Dholpur, Karauli put on alert Dholpur and Karauli districts were put on high alert on Monday after 14 gates of Kota Barrage were opened. Traffic was blocked on the Agra-Mumbai national highway at 3 am on Sunday morning near Dholpur. Many villages in these districts have turned into island affected the normal life of people.
Many people in Karauli district, especially from villages in the Mandrayal and Sapotara tehsils, have been shifted to safe places after an overflowing Chambal started flowing above the danger mark. Additional district magistrate, Kota city, Sunita Daga said that alert has been sounded in the low-lying residential areas near banks of Chambal river due to release of water from Kota Barrage. People from around three dozen houses of Harijan Basti in Kota evacuated the area on their own.
Situation normalises in Jhalawar After heavy rainfall, situation began normalising in Jhalawar and certain other parts of Hadauti region which witnessed heavy water-logging on Sunday. District collector of Jhalawar, Bishnu Charan Mallick, said that the situation has limping towards normal in Jhalawar, as water in the overflow in Kali Sindh river reduced significantly.
Connection with around 15 villages of the district was also restored on Monday.
