Some schools have even hike their fees by 20% — the upper ceiling of the yearly increment laid down by the panel. Parents have questioned the sanctity of the panel’s orders restraining schools from increasing their fee without any valid reasons.

“What is the use of a regulatory body when it cannot enforce its regulation,” said Nand Kishore Gurjar, a parent of three children studying in Maharaja Agrasen Public School. The school has increased its fee by 25% without improving any facility. Another parent alleged that despite a hike in fees twice in the last two sessions, the school has not increased any facility. However, Agrasen School’s principal Meena Sharma defended that the decision to hike the fees was justified. “Almost all the schools in the district have increased their fees and ours is not an exception,” said Sharma. When asked if her school management had obtained a go-ahead from the fee regulatory panel before increasing the fee structure, and she instantly replied, “I am not aware.”
