Nearly a month after the death of Pradeep Sharma, a whistleblower who raised his voice against politicians allegedly involved in illegal mining in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, his family has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
Sharma, 55, was allegedly murdered by local leaders in Pacheri village of Rajasthan for opposing illegal mining. His body, full of bruise marks and strangulation marks, was found on March 4.
Sharma’s son, Rakesh told HT that in the FIR the family had named relatives of an MLA and a local BJP leader who used to threaten his father, but no arrests have been made till date.
In 2011, Sharma had returned to his village after having worked in Delhi and was trying to organise the villagers against the mining mafia. He had filed a PIL in the high court which had ordered a stay in May 2011 on mining in pasture land.
Rakesh also alleged that the post mortem had been done hurriedly and accused the police of destroying evidence.
However, additional SP (CID-CB), Mohammed Tariq Alam who is investigating the case said the post mortem report listed drowning as the cause of death. “We have to investigate if it was homicidal or accidental.”
