The state government is considering running luxury old-age homes in all the seven divisional headquarters under the public private partnership (PPP) mode, notwithstanding recent protests over its privatisation plan for schools and primary health centres.
“In order to provide star category (luxury) facilities at old-age homes, we are planning to run them under PPP mode. Such old-age homes will be set up in divisional headquarters with pilot project in Jaipur,” state social justice and empowerment minister Arun Chaturvedi told HT.
Chaturvedi said many people, particularly those whose family members were settled or working abroad, had approached them and were ready to pay hefty amount for luxury old-age homes.
In addition to this, in view of good results shown by an old-age home run by an NGO in Bikaner, it had been decided to run five other such homes in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Jodhpur, he said.
“We are also open to proposals for setting up old-age homes at religious places which could be run by the respective trust. The proposal will only be cleared once the district committee headed by the respective collector recommends it,” he said.
The minister said the department, in a meeting held on Wednesday, had also integrated four schemes run for old-age homes – Chirayu (2004), Shravan Kumar Kalyan Seva Ashram (day care center), old-age rule 2006, and Rajasthan old-age rule 2013, to Rajasthan Old Age and Day Care Center guidelines 2015.

He said that for better upkeep and monitoring of children homes, directions to constitute official committees had been given.
