As students ran helter-skelter in fear after the shooting, at least 12 of them were injured.

After killing his colleague Chhagan Lal, Pradeep Mishra locked himself in a classroom and shot himself in the shoulder. He survived and is undergoing treatment at the SMS Hospital in Jaipur.

The incident occurred in Sri Mahaveer Jain Upper Primary School in Patoda village, 200 km east of Jaipur.

Chhagan Lal had gathered around 250 students for attendance in the school ground when Mishra came there with a bag. He pulled out a gun and shot Lal.

Police superintendent Mahendra Singh said: “The motive behind the murder is not clear. It may be some old enmity. In the suicide note (found at his residence), Mishra mentioned Chhagan Lal had some grudge against him and used to harass and thrash him.”
