A 29-year-old man from Jodhpur has been arrested for allegedly trying to implicate the husband of a woman he was in love with in a drug smuggling case, the government railway police (GRP) said on Wednesday.
Dinesh Jayni and two of his aides hatched the plan together in a bid to prevent Hari Om Advani of Gujarat’s Vadodara from taking his newlywed wife home, officials of the GRP probing the case said, adding that the woman’s role was under investigation.
All the three accused were arrested from Jodhpur on Tuesday night and produced before a local court, which sent them to three-day police custody.
In September, the GRP detained Advani, a businessman, at Jodhpur railway station after 900 grams of opium was found in his bag. Advani, who had come to Jodhpur to pick his wife, feigned ignorance about the opium’s presence in the bag.
During investigation, the GRP found credence in his story as the opium was wrapped in a newspaper printed in Pali, Jodhpur. “If the newspaper was printed in Jodhpur, how could he have transported the drug from Gujarat,” an investigation officer said.
The more credible lead for Advani’s innocence was the tip-off call to the GRP. The person making the call, which was later traced to a number in Jodhpur’s Pindwara, was providing specific inputs about Advani’s travel leading to suspicion.

{{/usCountry}}Further investigation led the police to Jayni. “He didn’t want Advani to take his wife back home and hatched the plan with his friends Raghvendra Yvas and Bheram Ram,” the officer said.
As part of the plan, Ram was asked to take the same train as Advani from Vadodara and provide details of his movement. Ram planted the opium in Advani’s bag in Abu Road, about 170 km before Jodhpur.
