A 21-year-old married woman has accused around a dozen people, including NPP MLA Kirodi Lal Meena, of gang-raping her at many places over a period of three months.
Meena, a former BJP MP, dismissed the allegation, and demanded a CBI probe into the case, saying he did not expect justice from the BJP-led state government.
After filing the FIR at the women’s police station in Karauli on Friday evening, the woman and her family have gone missing. However, police denied the claim and said they have been given police protection.
“The woman has said in her complaint that her sister, who is married to her husband’s brother, had taken her from their village Kasara to Karauli city where she was gang-raped by five people,” Karauli circle officer Hemaram Choudhary said.
Thereafter, she was taken to the house of another person where her husband was allegedly present and he sold her for Rs 5,000 to her rapists, he said.
“Her husband, who is a school teacher, had lodged a missing report in Mansalpur police station after her disappearance. But the woman has alleged that her husband knew her whereabouts and aided the accused,” Choudhary said.
Over the course of next three months, she was taken to Dholpur, Coimbatore and Jaipur, where she was allegedly raped by Meena one night, the officer said quoting the woman’s complaint.
The accused include her husband’s brother and a few other relatives. Almost all the accused are from the Meena caste and three are Jatavs.
The woman has said in her complaint that she somehow managed to escape from the accused in Jaipur and reached Karauli and filed the FIR.
“A medical test has been conducted and the report is awaited. More can be said after further investigation,” Choudhary said.
MLA Meena rubbished the allegations, saying Congress and BJP leaders, “especially from Meena community” were “desperate” as he was constantly raising people’s issues.
“I do not know this woman, I have not met her. It is a political conspiracy to tarnish my image. It is the first time in 40 years of my political career that such an allegation has been levelled against me,” he said.
