WhatsApp is going to get animated stickers feature soon

WhatsApp’s latest beta update for Android might be bringing support for animated sticker packs soon. Spotted by WABetaInfo, the tracks showed possible support for animated stickers like we have seen on Facebook.

“All Stickers Packs received a server side update from WhatsApp! Open WhatsApp > Chat > Stickers button > Plus icon and you see “UPDATE” for all packs you have previously downloaded. Reasons of the update are actually unknown. Maybe some improvements,” WABetaInfo tweeted on Friday.
“Developers will be able to implement animated stickers in their sticker apps to be forwarded in WhatsApp: we will give more details about this possibility later,” WABetaInfo explained.
They also shared a whole bunch of screenshots on their site to show stickers that will be added in WhatsApp, when the support for animated stickers is publicly available. WABetaInfo, however, pointed out that these sticker packs will differ from country to country.

Most of the stickers will look familiar because you have spotted them on Facebook Messenger earlier. Much like you had to do on Messenger, you will need to download each pack individually to be able to use them in your chats.
That Facebook stickers are popping up on WhatsApp is not surprising in the least. However, we do not know when it is going to make it to the public build.
Animated stickers is the latest of the features we expect to see on WhatsApp this year. WhatsApp’s ‘Disappearing Messages’ was also spotted in the latest beta version 2.19.275 for Android.
With the ‘Delete Messages’ feature, group admins will be able to “select a specific duration for messages on the group and once a message crosses the duration, it will be automatically deleted”.
Initially, according to reports, “the new feature was expected to be available for both individual chats and group chats, but now the report claims that the feature will be limited to group chats only”.
