Four women inmates are missing from Hooghly's Dulal Smriti Samsad, a welfare home 60 km from Kolkata, which hit the headlines recently after a mentally-challenged woman was found buried in its premises.
Guria, 34, whose body was exhumed on July 11, was allegedly sexually abused. During investigation, police found Ramzan Bibi, Anu Ghosh, Jharna Samanta and Sunita Paswan are missing. Their names feature on the welfare home's register, but there is no word on what happened to them.
After the locals alleged that the welfare home authorities often buried bodies at Jamalpur, on the banks of river Damodar, in the neighbouring Burdwan district, the case was handed over to the CID on Sunday.
"A team will visit the spot where the bodies are allegedly buried," said Vineet Goel, deputy inspector general, CID.
After Guria's body was found, Uday Chand Kumar, secretary of Dulal Smriti Samsad, was arrested. Guria had died on July 1. Locals suspected something amiss when the body was buried in the campus. Nine others have been arrested since.
On Sunday, police detained Kanchan Kumar Mondal, health officer of Sonamukhi, Bankura district, who had signed Guria's death certificate.
