State Congress vice president, Manas Bhuniya, who is also the CLP leader, told reporters that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee should come out with a statement on whether he approves the statement of CPI-M leader Shyamal Chakraborty calling West Bengal governor 'partisan'.

"The way the CPI-M has been attacking the Governor, which is a constitutional post, has led to a constitutional crisis. The CPI-M has become desperate," he said.

He said that the state Congress would like Gandhi to continue even after the expiry of his five-year tenure at the end of this month.

Accusing the CPI(M) of indulging in violence in different parts of the state against the Opposition, Bhuniya said that his party wanted Central intervention in this regard.

In a statement, the Left Front claimed political violence in West Bengal in recent months was targetted against CPI(M) in particular and Left Front in general.
