'Kolkata dakshine Mamata ar purbe Sudip, Banglai amra jalabo pradip' (Mamata Banerjee is in Kolkata South and Sudip Bandopadhyay is from Kolkata North, we will light the lamp of development in Bengal), a Trinamool Congress banner holds forth.

Countering it, a CPI-M banner snidely says, 'Trinamool Congress wants industry, not in Bengal, but in Gujarat' referring to the shifting of Tata Motors Nano project from Singur to Gujarat.

While CPI(M) banners and hoardings mainly focus on industry and development, the Trinamool Congress' campaign strives to be more emotional with its theme of Ma-Mati-Manush' (people's bond with the land).

Some of its hoardings also dwell on CPI-M's 'terror' and 'failure' to usher in development during its 32-year rule in the state.
