Kamal Sarkar of Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas died on July 7 last year. A death certificate issued by a local doctor stated that he died due to a cardiac problem.

But Kamal's mother suspecting that he had been killed by his wife Nandita approached a Chief Judicial Magistrate's court.

The court ordered exhumation of the body for post-mortem. The body was exhumed by Sonarpur police and a post-mortem done. The post-mortem report stated that "death in all probability was due to strangulation."

Subsequently, Nandita was arrested by Sonapur police on January 23 this year but was later relased on bail. Kamal's mother then appealed to the DIG, CID on February 2 to take up the case.

The CID, after taking up the case submitted a report to Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Baruipur, that after initial investigation they did not find any foul play in Kamal's death. The CID, however, prayed for exhuming the body for a second time.
