Over 70,000 landlines and 10,000 broadband connections are affected in the city after a fire broke out at a BSNL office in Kolkata, company officials said on Wednesday.

Fire tenders took two hours to control the blaze last night at BSNL's Hungerford Street office.

Apart from the broadband and the landline connections, 3,000 leased lines and 55 RSUS (Remote Satellite Exchange) connected by DLC (Digital Loop Carrier) have also tripped, a company spokesperson said.
Line restoration plans are being worked out by company officials, he added.
