While Bhattacharjee’s statement was aimed at bolstering the morale of his comrades amidst circulating speculations (by a section of the media) about the nature of a probable Trinamool Congress cabinet, Left Front chairman Biman Bose complained to the Election Commission about the menace of paid news.

Bose labelled a news item about a possible cabinet by Mamata Banerjee as ‘paid news’ and also termed it as ‘motivated and completely unusual before the completion of the election’.

In the press statement, the chief minister claimed that the Left Front’s victory has become evident from the trend of the first four phases of elections and the people of the state would make sure that the eighth Left Front government is formed in West Bengal.

“In such a situation, certain planned propaganda is going on with the motive of demoralising Left Front activists. An imaginary Trinamool-led government is being projected in order to motivate the voters who would vote in the remaining two phases of the ensuring elections,” the statement by Bhattacharjee has read.

Meanwhile, in his letter to the CEC, Bose said that the news item published in the vernacular daily is planted. “The news has been written in a planned manner to influence voters in the next two phases of elections,” the letter read.

Bose also claimed in the letter that the particular group of publication had played partisan role to oppose the Left Front in several assembly polls. “It is evident that this news is nothing but paid news,” he said.
