West Bengal chief m inister Mamata Banerjee on Monday held a meeting with 11 employees unions including the CPI(M)-affiliated Coordination Committee and Trinamool Congress and Congress supported unions, to seek their cooperation.
"I had a cordial meeting with the unions and sought their cooperation and was assured of cooperation," the chief minister told reporters at the end of the 90-minute meeting.
Mangalmoy Ghosh of Trinamool Congress-affiliated WB State Government Employees' Federation said that Banerjee told them that there would be similar meetings with employees' unions every three months.
He said an assurance was received for introducing training for employees.
She also promised to revive the RTI cell at the secretariat which had turned defunct, Ghosh said.
The INTUC-affiliated Confederation of State Government Employees member Subrata Bhattacharya said that the chief minister called for a data bank to ascertain the exact number of state government employees and pending cases.
According to the Trinamool Congress supported WB Government Employees' Union (Nabaparjay), the chief minister was urged to consider the case of 40,000 casual and contractual employees, whose fate remained uncertain.
A representative of the union said that the chief minister has asked Commerce and Industries minister Partha Chatterjee to look into the case of B G press which lacked orders.
