However, proposed new party will stay true to the CPI(M) ideology and not ally with anti-Left forces. It will even campaign for CPI(M) candidates.

Disgruntled CPI(M) workers in Lalgarh said the district leadership’s indifference towards them after the assembly polls had prompted the decision to form their party.

A setback in Lalgarh — the epicentre of the recent Maoist problem in the state, where about 40 party workers have been killed and 15 abducted so far by Maoists — would expose the wrangles in the CPI(M) after the assembly polls drubbing.

The LCPI(M) would be the ‘second official faction’ of CPI(M) in West Midnapore district, where about three years back DCPI(M) was formed. ‘D’ stands for Datan. Aloke Nandy, then the CPI(M) zonal secretary in Datan, floated the DCPI(M) after differences with the district leadership.

So far, the LCPI(M) proponents have mustered support of three of the four local committees that make up the CPI(M) zonal committee in Lalgarh.
