The EC filed an FIR against Subhrangshu Roy, accusing him of assaulting officials appointed by the poll panel. The officials were reportedly assaulted as they were trying to enforce the model code of conduct by erasing wall graffiti on public and private buildings.

Chief election officer of West Bengal Sunil Gupta told reporters on Wednesday, that there had been negligence on part of Partha Pratim Roy, inspector in-charge, Bijpur, in ensuring the arrest of Subhrangshu Roy.

"Subhrangshu, the prime accused, and some of his supporters assaulted members of an EC-appointed team on Tuesday after they went to Bijpur to erase wall writings on public and private buildings. Subhrangshu went to the Bijpur police station soon after the FIR was lodged but he was not arrested. We asked for report from the district magistrate and superintendent. Since the inspector in-charge was unable to give any satisfactory answer on why Subhrangshu was not arrested, he has been suspended and departmental enquires have started," Gupta said. Subhrangshu is yet to be traced, he said.

Despite repeated attempts, neither Subhrangshu nor his father could be contacted.
