Faced with leadership on the run in and around Lalgarh, CPI(M) is about to put in place new faces who will start the groundwork for elections in Jhargram and Binpur. The focus is to replace absconding and tainted leaders such as Anuj and Dalim Pandey with relatively low profile and clean faces.

Binpur zonal secretary Anuj Pandey is likely to be replaced by Sushanta Kundu. CPI(M) district leadership in West Midnapore in consultation with Alimuddin Street has chosen Kundu, a zonal member of the party in Binpur and hails from Dahijuri. Kundu, 65, is the retired headmaster of Dahijuri High School and stays at Jhargram as he is on the run from Maoists.

The party is eager to rectify their mistake in choosing a flamboyant person like Anuj Pandey. A new district secretariat member will also be chosen for Binpur. District secretariat member Satyen Maity looks after the zone but he has been discredited after Netai killings. District secretary Dipak Sarkar may look after Binpur until a substitute is found. Benoy Pandey, 70, from Harina and a member of Binpur zonal committee, is likely to take charge of Lalgarh and Dharampur. He is also an uncle of Anuj Pandey.

In absence of the leadership, it is difficult for CPI(M) to continue their campaign. The party is yet to launch campaign in gram panchayat areas like Lalgarh, Ramgarh, Sijua (Kantapahari), Dharampur, Baita, Belatikri, Nepura, Binpur, Andharia and Dahijuri.
